Levelling
What levelling does, how to turn it on, what each plan includes, and where each part lives in the dashboard.
Levelling gives members XP for taking part in your server, turns that XP into levels, and hands out roles as they climb. Members see their level with /rank and the standings with /leaderboard, and Colossus can announce each level-up where it happened.
Levelling comes with every plan, Free included. It works from the same activity Colossus already records for your charts, so a server that has been recording for a while has levels ready the moment it is turned on.
Turn levelling on
Levelling starts off. To turn it on:
- Open Settings, then Server.
- Under Modules, switch on Levelling.
Every levelling page also offers Turn on while it is off. You need permission to change levelling, which the Manager and Admin presets have; see Give your team access.
Turning it on works out every member's level from the activity already recorded, and announces nothing for it. If you have reward roles set up, Colossus first shows who would gain or lose each role, and hands them out once you confirm.
While levelling is off, XP still counts in the background, but members cannot see it, /rank and /leaderboard leave your server and nothing is announced.
Moving over from another levelling bot? Start from Move over from another bot instead, which lets members try Colossus before anything is announced.
What the bot needs
Level-up messages and reward roles need the bot to hold Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files, Use External Emojis and Manage Roles. With Administrator ticked when you added the bot, it has them all. The Levelling row lists them once levelling is on.
Discord also lets a bot hand out only the roles that sit below its own highest role. Drag the Colossus role above every role you want it to give, in your server's Server Settings → Roles.
What each plan includes
The pricing page has the full comparison. A setting your plan does not include shows a lock with the plan that adds it. If your plan ends, what you set up beyond it is kept but stops applying until you upgrade again.
Where everything lives
In the sidebar, Rewards holds levelling's pages:
- Earning XP: how members earn XP and how XP adds up to levels. See XP and levels.
- Levels & perks: what members are given for levels, activity and membership. See Perks.
- Roles: how the roles perks hand out behave: how level rewards stack, what a member who comes back gets, and who runs the roles. See Perks.
- Level-ups & cards: Level-ups, where, when and how a level-up is announced; Rank card, the card
/rankposts and who sees/leaderboard's answer; and Images, which keeps the cards you design. See Level-ups and rank cards. - Requests: what members send in for you to judge, Member pictures and Level claims, with how many wait. Only people who may change levelling see it.
Bringing levels over from the bot you used before is Levelling history, on Import under Settings. Only people who may change levelling see it. Under Leaderboards, Levels ranks members by level, and each member in Members, under Explore, has a Levelling page with their level, where their XP came from and, for your team, a way to change it.
Save your changes
Changes on the levelling pages wait in a bar at the bottom of the screen until you press Save, so you can change several things and save them together. A save that would give or take reward roles shows who gains and loses each one first.
